While visiting Rhodes House for Oxfordshire Artweeks, we warmly invite you to join Maitha Alsuwaidi, Public Art Engagement Facilitator at the Rhodes Trust, for an interactive art tour of the exhibition Entangled: Southern African Artists Reflect on Colonialism, Monuments, & Memory, currently on display at Rhodes House.

Through a selection of artworks produced since Rhodes Must Fall, the Entangled exhibition takes an intimate look at how artists in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe have grappled with colonial legacies, their material manifestations and visual symbolism, pointing to the possibility of decolonisation. The exhibition is curated by Julie Taylor and presents the works of Nicola Brandt, Isheanesu Dondo, Raymond Fuyana, Muningandu Hoveka, Tuli Mekondjo, and Zenaéca Singh.

The Artweeks tours will take place on Friday 9th May and Saturday 10th May at 11:00-12:00 and 14:00-15:00. We will be running additional tours on Tuesday 13th May at 13:00-14:00 and 15:00-16:00 and Wednesday 14th May at 10:30-11:30. Please choose your slot. The meeting point is the Rotunda entrance of Rhodes House on South Parks Road.

We also welcome you to join a creative workshop with Rebecca Korang, our Artist in Residence. This workshop invites you into a space of reflection, creation, and collective exchange. Through drawing and writing, we explore the ways memories are made, disrupted and transformed — in our lives and in the larger histories we carry.

Together, we reflect on: How can we create space for what was left out of the archive? What if fragmentation isn’t the end of the story, but the beginning of another way of telling? How do we hold joy — radical, soft, defiant — alongside rupture?

No artistic experience is needed; just curiosity, openness and a willingness to reflect. All materials will be provided.

The workshops will take place on Friday 9th May and Saturday 10th May at 12:00-13:00. The meeting point is the Rotunda entrance of Rhodes House on South Parks Road.

Spaces are limited, so please let us know if you sign up but can no longer make it by emailing communications@rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk
